Truth be told I’m not sure if 2016 will be an awesome year. Looking back at the last 25 years of my life every year was awesome in his own way, and every year was awful in his own way. I don’t know if 2016 will be a good year, but be sure that I will try to make it so.
I spent the last few days thinking what I accomplished in 2015 and what I want to do in 2016. I realised that I have a lot of work ahead of me if I want to accomplish everything I want to do. And the list it’s still open. I haven’t yet decided upon all my goals for the whole year. Because it would be stupid ( at least at this point) to plan the whole year ahead. I’m not a proficient planner when it’s about my life. I have my goals ( the same that I have in the last few year actually). The thing is what actions do I take to make them happen?
Because that is the most common problems with new year resolutions. Just making a goals isn’t enough. If you don’t have the plan to accomplish that goal, you will never manage to reach it. A goal, especially big goals, should have an action plan. A road on how you will reach it.
Let’s take for example one of my goals in 2016. I want to read more. Last year I bought myself a lot of books and a Kindle on top of that so I have a full library of unread books. I would like to read them all, but I know it’s impossible to do that. So I set my goal to 1 book a week.
But just wanting to read 1 book isn’t enough. How I will do that, I asked myself? I’m an avid reader. I had read some books in a day or two, but that was when I wasn’t working and I could spend all day reading. Now I’m working, so I spend 8 hours at the office, plus almost two hours on the road to and back from the office. Even if 10 hours are lost, so to speak ( I can’t read at work obviously) I still have around 9 hours from the day left ( I usually wake up around 5 AM and go to sleep around 12:00.). So the action that I’m going to take it will be to read every morning 30 min and every evening 30 min. Maybe more if I have the time. But this hour must be reserved to reading. And I believe that if I do this I will make to accomplish at least 80% of my goal. Which is pretty good.
I blabbed about my reading goal too much, but you got the point. It’s important to set goals, but if you don’t commit actions and fallow those actions you can’t achieve them.
I want to make my 2016 an awesome year, and to accomplish all my goals. And I hope that you will do also, my almost non-existent reader. Let’s meet again on this blog, because I will write more this year ( this too it’s one of my goals).
